So Many Ways to Explore...

The Sierra de la Laguna Mountains, the Pacific Ocean, the Sea of Cortez, the desert landscape; all are a vast playground for those that love adventure.

The Granite Mountains of the Sierra de la Laguna that frame the horizon behind the Palm Orchard are truly a treasure. This magnificent area was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1994, is sparsely inhabited and underused. Hike, camp, or ride a mountain bike, on trails that wind through several ecosystems from sea level to the highest peak at 7,000 feet.  Pass through dry oak forests, pine-oak woods and oases with palms and “guerivos” transforming the landscape and climate until you find yourself in an oak forest on a lakebed that you never imagined existed.

It’s easy to travel from the Pacific side of the Baja to the Sea of Cortez, another UNESCO world heritage site, protected for its incredible wealth of sea life.  Take a mountain bike, dirt bike or ATV along winding dirt and sand roads across the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains for a day trip, or drive a couple of hours from the Orchard to the East Cape and south along winding shore roads past mile after mile of pristine, deserted beaches. While on the East Cape stop at Cabo Pulmo to scuba dive in the Sea of Cortez, or take a wind surfing lesson in Los Barriles.  Only an hour drive from the Orchard, visit La Paz, the capital of Baja Sur, and enjoy fine dining, a walk on the malecon or arrange a camping trip on Isla Espiritu Santo, one of the many uninhabited islands just off the coast.

The Pacific Ocean, just steps from the Palm Orchard, offers a variety of water sports and adventure.  Best known for its surf breaks located just a half mile from the Palm Orchard, Cerritos Beach and San Pedrito surf breaks attract both beginner and advanced surfers.  At the Palm Orchard surf lessons, kite boarding lessons, or day trips to Cabo to fish for Marlin or swim with the dolphins can be arranged.  Or simply walk from your home to the beach in front of the Orchard to watch the sunset, the surf and the grey whales migrating north to cooler waters.
